Something Completely Different

If we were sold on the last house, we would be moving forward with the plans.

Since we had reservations, I casually threw an idea out to Rod.

We have always planned on adding another barn to our property after the house is built. Since we can't decide on the house, why don't we put up the barn first and live in it?

It didn't take more than a day and he was sold...and so was I.

So now we head in yet another direction.

Thanks for following and here are some inspiration pictures. You can find them here. And here

Update on Our House

It's been a year and a half and we still don't have a house.

We have been studying a different house plan and like a lot of things about it.

You can check it out here.

It is 1421 square feet. Almost half of what we had before.

It has a lot of what we have been looking for, with a much more reasonable size (and price).

Stay tuned and thanks for following.

One Year Later

Umm, scratch that idea of building later this year.
Here are the inspiration pictures we used to plan our dream home.

They come from here. They are like nothing I have ever seen. And even though they are typically found in the mountains of Montana, I can just picture this style of home on our farm in Indiana.

We really thought we could scale this type of home down to 2500 square feet and be able to build much of it ourselves.

After all, building and remodeling homes is Rod's business.

But in the end, it was just too much.

Our building plans are on hold. We either need to scale our plan down, change the building materials, or possibly even find something much simpler.

In the meantime, our 8-acres with a barn will be home to our two 4-H heifers, one 4-H steer, numerous steers for beef production and random farm cats. We'll continue to drive several times daily to care for our animals. Here are a few pictures of our farm.

The Beginning

This is a blog to document the journey to build our house.

This is our sixteenth year of marriage and we have lived in three homes.

We couldn't afford our dream home in the country. So we flipped houses until we could.

Our latest and biggest house-flip unexpectedly, but oh-so-welcomingly, just sold.

Here is the before and after:

We found a condominium to rent while we build a house.

We'd like to start building this year.

Stay tuned.
